Bipartisan COVID-19 Earned Income Act Helps Support American Families in Economics and Finance, Education and Workforce

Bipartisan Policy Center Action applauds Sens. Brown (D-OH) and Cassidy (R-LA) for last month’s introduction of the COVID-19 Earned Income Act. This bipartisan bill would provide much-needed support to low- and middle-income families by ensuring they continue to receive the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC) that they deserve.

“The COVID-19 pandemic is placing substantial stress on household finances. With over 22 million jobless claims filed in just four weeks, American families are experiencing sharp declines in their income and continue to need government support,” said BPC Action Executive Director Michele Stockwell. “To make matters worse, workers who lose their jobs also stand to lose vital tax credits like the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child Tax Credit. Congress should prioritize bills like the COVID-19 Earned Income Act that put these families first and provide them the income support they need.”
