BPC Action Applauds Bipartisan, Bicameral Introduction of the Clean Industrial Technology Act in Energy and Environment

BPC Action commends the bicameral, bipartisan introduction of the Clean Industrial Technology Act (CITA) by Sens. Whitehouse (D-RI) and Capito (R-WV), Mike Braun (R-IN), and Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Reps. Casten (D-IL), McKinley (R-WV), Johnson (D-TX), and Radewagen (R-AS-At Large). We are pleased to see congressional support for research and development of advanced technologies capable of simultaneously decreasing emissions from the industry while bolstering the underlying efficiency and competitiveness of U.S. industry.

In order to meet future energy demands through cleaner energy, research and innovation are needed, including from industrial sources where emission reduction is difficult. This bill helps to support research and demonstration of innovative technologies to reduce emissions from steel and cement production, chemicals production, and others. This bill is aimed at establishing a crosscutting program of research, development, demonstration, and commercialization of technologies capable of achieving the simultaneous goals of reducing emissions while increasing technological and economic competitiveness of industrial and manufacturing processes in the United States. This legislation presents a key opportunity to address a critical challenge.
