BPC Action Applauds Senate Introduction of Bipartisan ARC Act in Energy and Environment

BPC Action commends the bipartisan effort of Sens. Manchin, Barrasso, King, and Marshall in introducing S.2836, America’s Revegetation and Carbon Sequestration (ARCs) Act of 2021. This bill will be impactful across our natural lands by promoting forest health and revegetation, reducing risk to wildfires, investing in new technologies for wood products, and reducing emissions through carbon sequestration—priorities consistent with BPC’s Farm and Forest Carbon Solutions Initiative. Most notably, this bill will establish regional revegetation task forces to carry out comprehensive ecosystem restoration across forests and grasslands and assess the state of existing tree nursery pipelines and seed storage resources that enable revegetation. The ARCs Act also promotes demand for timber and innovative wood products by directing the Department of the Interior and the U.S. Forest Service to increase the amount of embodied carbon stored in federal buildings.

We are glad to see congressional support for reforestation activities that will bolster rural communities and mitigate climate impacts. BPC Action looks forward to working with Congress to pass this bill.
