30 Sep 2026 BPC Action Urges Congress to Pass the Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act This Year in Energy and Environment
The following is a statement from Michele Stockwell, president of Bipartisan Policy Center Action:
“BPC Action is proud to endorse the Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act and commends Sens. Capito (R-WV), Whitehouse (D-RI), Lee (R-UT), and Heinrich (D-NM) for reaching an agreement on this important issue. Permitting reform has sat on the congressional to-do list for years, and the cost of inaction grows each day.
Americans are paying the price for a broken permitting system through rising everyday costs and worse environmental outcomes. Power demand is climbing as manufacturing returns stateside and businesses need more electricity. We have the technology to meet that demand at a lower cost, but projects often stall for years in reviews and litigation. Today’s permitting inefficiencies weaken the grid, cede ground to competitors, and keep much-needed infrastructure on the drawing board.
The need for reform is one of the few things Republicans and Democrats agree on, and these Senate leaders have translated that consensus into a comprehensive, bipartisan bill. Permitting reform cannot wait, and the time to act is now.
BPC Action has long argued that durable permitting reform must be bipartisan, technology-neutral, and maintain strong environmental standards. We urge swift action and look forward to working with members of both parties to get this bill to the president’s desk this Congress.”
