BPC Action Urges Bipartisan Momentum on Obesity Care in Health

In light of the House Ways and Means Committee markup of H.R. 4818, the Treat and Reduce Obesity Act (TROA) led by Reps. Brad Wenstrup (R-OH) and Gwen Moore (D-WI), BPC Action issued the following statement:

“The United States faces a growing obesity epidemic impacting more than 4 in 10 adults, while obesity-related conditions—including heart disease, stroke, Type 2 diabetes, and cancer—are among the leading causes of preventable, premature death. BPC Action appreciates the bipartisan effort from Congress to try to address this issue and understands the challenges in finding a comprehensive solution,” said Michele Stockwell, President of BPC Action. “The revised Treat and Reduce Obesity Act takes incremental steps to ensure specified individuals receive the treatments and medications they need, and BPC Action is pleased to support the proposal in front of the committee. We hope to continue working with policymakers in a bipartisan fashion to build on this policy, further assess the fiscal impacts, and ensure all those who need it can receive the evidence-based treatments and medications available to them under Medicare.”
