Federal Energy and Water Management Performance Act of 2019 Important Step for Energy Efficiency in Energy and Environment

BPC Action commends Sens. Murkowski (R-AK) and Manchin (D-WV), along with Sens. Portman (R-OH), Gardner (R-CO), Shaheen (D-NH), and Hirono (D-HI) for the introduction of the Federal Energy and Water Management Performance Act of 2019, S. 1857. We applaud the congressional support for greater energy efficiency and water-saving measures across the federal government.

The legislation supports efforts to increase energy and water efficiency and clean energy innovation across the federal government by authorizing and codifying the Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP). The Act provides guidelines for improving the efficiency and reducing the energy and water consumption of federal facilities, with particular focus on technical assistance, federal policy coordination, and energy and water management reporting. Under the Federal Energy and Water Management Performance Act of 2019, the federal government would emerge as a leader in energy and water management best practices and reduce its operating costs and environmental impacts.

BPC Action looks forward to working with Congress to pass this important bill.
