Bipartisan, Bicameral Introduction of the Advancing Support for Working Families Act an Important Step in Supporting American Families in Paid Parental Leave

BPC Action encourages support for the Advancing Support for Working Families Act and applauds Sens. Cassidy (R-LA) and Sinema (D-AZ) and Reps. Allred (D-TX) and Stefanik (R-NY) for their leadership on this bill, which is an important step in supporting American families.

Research shows that the first year of life is critical to a child’s development, but it can create a financial burden for some families. This legislation would give families the flexibility to take more of their allowed benefit through the Child Tax Credit in the first year following the birth or adoption of a child.

BPC has long supported pragmatic efforts to strengthen the Child Tax Credit, including calling for its expansion by $2,500 per eligible child through age five to help relieve financial burdens by putting more money in the pockets of working families with young children.

The Advancing Support for Working Families Act, combined with other measures to expand the Child Tax Credit, has the potential to make a real impact on the lives of American families. BPC Action encourages members to support this bipartisan, bicameral legislation and take action now.
