BPC Action Applauds House Introduction of Bipartisan Child Care Protection Improvement Act in Children

BPC Action applauds Reps. McBath (D-GA), Taylor (R-TX), Axne (D-IA), Finkenauer (D-IA), and Keller (R-PA) for introducing the bipartisan Child Care Protection Improvement Act, H.R. 3986, which aims to improve child safety by establishing a task force to assist in implementing interstate criminal background checks.

The task force created through this legislation would examine the background check requirements under the Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG), which are critical to protecting the health and safety of our nation’s children. Nearly five years after CCDBG passed, states are still struggling to implement these background checks, which is why the Bipartisan Policy Center has long called for more information and guidance for states paired with additional oversight and accountability. This legislation addresses these needs.

We look forward to working with Congress to help get this legislation over the finish line to ensure the protection of some of our nation’s most vulnerable individuals
