02 Feb 2026 BPC Action Calls on Congressional Leadership to Move Housing Legislation Forward in Housing
BPC Action urges congressional leadership to bring the bipartisan ROAD to Housing Act, led by Senate Banking Committee Chairman Tim Scott (R-SC) and Ranking Member Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), and the Housing for the 21st Century Act, led by House Financial Services Committee Chairman French Hill (R-AR) and Ranking Member Maxine Waters (D-CA), to their respective chamber floors for a vote as soon as possible.
High housing costs and a lack of affordable supply affect communities in every region of the country, in red and blue states alike. Families, employers, local governments, and housing providers are all impacted, underscoring the need for practical, durable solutions.
The ROAD to Housing Act and the Housing for the 21st Century Act offer Congress an opportunity to engage on this issue constructively and demonstrate a commitment to addressing one of the most pressing issues facing Americans, despite political divides. These legislative packages reflect a balanced approach by seeking to reduce unnecessary regulatory barriers, improve coordination across levels of government, and support efforts to responsibly expand housing supply. Many of the provisions also align with the bipartisan housing crisis solutions outlined in BPC Action’s American Housing Act legislative brief.
Following any action on these bills, BPC Action encourages the Senate and House to promptly begin a conference process to develop a compromise version that both chambers can pass and send to the president for his signature.
