Child Care Protection Improvement Act an Important Step for Safety and Health of America’s Children in Children

The following is a statement from BPC Action on the Child Care Protection Improvement Act:

BPC Action applauds Sens. Burr (R-NC) and Van Hollen (D-MD) for introducing the Child Care Protection Improvement Act.  This bill would create a task force to examine the background check requirements under the Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG). These requirements are critical at protecting the health and safety of children. With only two states fully compliant with the CCDBG background check requirements, more guidance and information for states paired with additional oversight and accountability are needed, and this legislation addresses these needs.

“We are pleased to see that the bill will create a task force to study the background check requirements in CCDBG and offer recommendations related to the challenges that the states face in complying with CCDBG requirements, which are in line with BPC recommendations,” said Linda Smith, director of BPC’s Early Childhood Initiative.

The background check requirements were created to promote and ensure the safety of children, and we look forward to working with Congress to help fulfill that goal by getting Child Care Protection Improvement Act over the finish line.
